Title: Volcanic ash cloud: UK flight ban worsens
Post by: Terpe on April 17, 2010, 09:38:04 PM
Really no flights in or out at all since last Thursday.
It\'s not just UK but most of northern and central Europe.

We are still hoping our flight to Philippines at end of April will be OK but all the volcano experts and weather experts seem to believe this situation will remain until the volcano ceases completely its eruptions.

Hope none of members will be caught up!

Here is the latest story for impacts around Asia:

A friend of mine is supposed to fly back via HK today..They stopped him boarding as HK is already full..
The insurance company and airline are giving him no assistance..He`s on his own perhaps for another week or two.

I\'m really hoping my flight back to the UK, from the USA, will be okay next Thursday.  ???

Next time home is the rush to apply for a medical, new passport, 13A visa, pack a whole house and workshop into a 20\' container, send the wife and sprog on their way to the PI, clean and rent the house out, then me get back offshore for the end of May. I don\'t have time to be dallying about waiting for ash to clear.  :(

So I guess there wont be too many postings from you during this time ???

On the news yesterday (TFC) they interviewed 4 or 5 white guys (various nationalities) about their airport delay experiences.
To the question about how disappointed they were to learn they could be at least 3 weeks delayed in Philippines they all laughed and started talking excitedly about how happy they were to have this chance of extension!!! We love it here they said.

Just says it all right?? ha ha

And of course their respective governments (who won\'t let the planes fly) will of course help with accomodation, meals and visa extension expenses......won\'t they  :D

If the main carrier is EU based then they have duty of care EU regs to comply with..Hotels bills etc..Outside of EU and they are on their own..Their travel insurance may pay depending on what the small print says.
