Title: Finally ..... Captain Rons tale
Post by: on February 21, 2008, 09:22:37 PM
My name is [strike]Ishmail[/strike] Dave not Ron….(Captain Ron after a movie character by Kurt Russell).

I\'m a wandering Brit - left UK shores in early \'76 and have lived in …….Iran, Greece, Libya, Netherlands, US (IL, IN, CA, NY, NJ, MD & FL), Bahamas, Bermuda, Martinique, St Vincent & Grenadines, Belgium, France, Switzerland and currently Netherlands again.
Shoulda headed for RP MUCH earlier in life

Work in Luxembourg during week and return to Rotterdam on weekends.

Mostly relocated for new work assignments (IT and banking) consulting these days

Just returned from 4th trip to RP, primarily Bohol but spend some time in Cebu (City and Bantayaan), also Gingoog City and Butuan

We (Gloria & I) will use Tagbilaran, Bohol as home base for about 6 months to scope out other possibile locations to live BUT I\'ve GOT to be beside the water and a few nearby islands

Primarily attracted to RP because of the thousands of islands and sailing, scuba and fishing possibilities.....BTW we\'re both Pisces kids tough to tell eh?
Wonderful nature of Filipinos young to old, filipinas and filipinas, is a wonderful BONUS - they are all guapa/guapo in my book

Dave,

It was your post with the photo of you as a young man that inspired the Early Photos topic.  Would you mind posting this picture there with the rest of the \"mug shots\"?  I tried to copy your post and put it there, but it doesn\'t work that way.

Thanks!

Jack

Ron, what did you think of Gingoog City? That is where my future bride lives, and wants me to move there with her.
thanks
John

Very tranquil, if it had some nearby offshore islands I might well consider it as future home.

Gloria was born in Gingoog and attended college there.

Stay at Mountain Air/Eastland Hotel.....best hotel value in RP - P1000 for glorious big a/c room with queen sized bed

In all probability we\'ll be marrying there in Jan 09

Glo still has 2 sisters and 1 brother living there

Great restuarant by the pier

Funky filipino beach resort about 5-7km south of town with jetty & karaoke for evening entertainment....Dina\'s or Diana\'s

Thanks Ron, its good to hear from someone other than my girl that its a great place to live. I do know there is a nice resort not very far away called Duka bay.
when you get ready to visit there send me a email and we can get together. i am going there in July if all goes well and we will wed in August, as I understand it, it takes a month to do all the church requires of me because i am not catholic.

I stayed at my friends beach house last October between Gingoog and Duka Bay. Did visit Gingoog a few times and for me a short visit was enough. A bit too quiet for my liking with not much to do and personally I could not live there. The beaches were also not so great. As you are probably aware its  between Cagayan de Oro and Butuan,  about a 2 hour drive to either which would be the closest airport. For shopping they mainly go to CDO. I also spent a few days in Camiquin Island which is close by and is a must visit if you are in that area.

Yes it is quiet and I\'d personally want to spend a weekend or two per month in CDO or Butuan or Camiguin if I ever lived there...and these places are only 2-4 hours away by bus.

But I was always entertained and enjoyed myself....possibly our experiences were different as this is Gloria\'s home town and dozens of folks (family and friends) wanted to meet us, have picnics, bbqs, just sit and chat....if we didn\'t know anyone in town, I think I might have found it a bit too quiet myself......but I was shown things and taken to places we\'d never have found on our own.

Hey Ron, when you were in Gingoog, did you go to the waterfalls? My bride says they are very nice, but were damaged by the floods this year.
