Title: Tutorial page
Post by: Lee2 on July 13, 2012, 10:53:43 AM
Maybe it would be a good idea as members find out things on how to work this forum, that they add them here.

To start out let me try a step by step on how to add a photo that you have on your home computer.
First we would click on add file found below the box we type in.
Then our own computer selection of photos should come up and we click on one and it should then show the photo name in the box next to add file.
Then we would click on where in the post we want the photo to show, I just clicked in the bottom of the post, so hopefully it will come out where I placed it.
Then click on insert below and it should show attachment bracketed and the name of the photo.
Then hopefully when we submit the post it should show up but if not then we can edit the post and try again.
Did I leave anything out? If so please post it.
Also hopefully others will post hints and tips on how to work this new software so we all can learn.

Does this work?

Yep.  Still rather large, but for anyone\'s information, I had re-sized it down to 333 x 250.

Yes, I\'m doing that maestro, but it won\'t work for me.
So, crunch time, I will ask Mrs Gee to take a look. Then .... I will sulk  :(  :(

I am not sure why it does not work for you. Maybe try another browser if you are using Internet Explorer and see if it works with say Google Chrome (https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/) or FireFox (http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/) and see if one of those will work. I have found that a lot of people still use IE and that it does not work as well with many of the forum software out there.

IE definitely is not very Forum-friendly.  I agree with Mr Lee about the browsers.  When someone first showed me Firefox, I wasn\'t sure about it.  Now I don\'t know how I lived without it!   :)   I like simple and this fit the bill for me.  Google Chrome is excellent, too.

I have no idea why you can\'t download photos.  I had no issues.  But I\'m still learning, too.  Maybe one of us will run across something to offer.  Keep trying!   :)

Able to access now, no CAPTCHA seen or needed this time.

I\'ll find out if it works when I press submit.

I just wanted to copy and paste a You Tube URL to my post, but instead the video clip ended up getting posted!
I know how to post pictures and videos, but this one didn\'t do what I wanted to do!
And within an hour before I could go back and edit my post, it said I could no longer edit my post!
Why so quick that I couldn\'t edit my post or is there a limit how many times one can edit their OP?

It\'s set for one hour.  You must have just missed the deadline.  :(   There is also a ten minute time limit while making any edit.

All members have the ability to delete their own post if no replies have been posted.  In other words, you have a few seconds (uncontrollable by me) in which to delete your inadvertantly submitted stupid, arrogant, hostile or ranting post before it is too late.  Once someone replies, you\'re stuck with it.

Think, and proof-read your post before you click \"Submit\"   It will save us all a lot of [strike]heartburn[/strike] needless work.   ;)   :)

Hi Jack,

You just confirmed my question! Good to know that I can delete or edit my inadvertantly submitted stupid, arrogant, hostile or ranting post before it\'s too late!

Figure this is the place to ask my question.

I have looked and cannot find where to set the messages in newest date first order, rather than oldest first.  Can someone instruct me on how this can be accomplished?

Salamat.
Title: Re: Tutorial page
Post by: Gray Wolf on November 16, 2012, 09:03:31 AM
Sure...  Click on "Profile"... then "Modify Profile"... then "Look and Layout"... then click the box that says "Show most recent posts at top".  You should be al set after that.

One more thing everyone may want to do is also click the box that says
"Return to topics after posting by default".  What this does is when you compose a message and submit, it will show you your post as everyone else sees it.

Thank you, Grey Wolf.  Makes it much easier to follow with newest messages first.  Do not know why I had problems finding it.

Hi Gray Wolf,

Cannot post a photo saved on my laptop.  It is a small photo - 150x150

Get an error message saying "uploader full..."

Do I need move photo to photobucket... is that still the best option for this Forum?

Thanks,
Tom

PhotoBucket, Flikr and others where the photo can be stored so the link works properly.

I'm having issues showing an example.  For some reason, my link won't paste into the body of this message.

Lee et al,
I like to use the image thumbs.
This way when someone clicks on the thumb, they can see a full sized pic.
This keeps the forum clean and the post smaller and still allows viewing of the larger pic if desired.
If you go into album settings, check the thumb option, this will set that action as default
(http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii269/rufusoffroad/th_PBSettings2.png) (http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii269/rufusoffroad/PBSettings2.png)
You can also make your albums private so that only the linked pic can be viewed.

Rufus,

After you select the photo you want and then click on the Thumbnail code, which it automatically copies for you, what is your next step.  Usually I would right click and then click on "Paste", but I'm not getting that option.  I can't figure out what I'm missing as this is the way I always did it before.

???
Title: Re: Tutorial page
Post by: RUFUS on December 05, 2012, 02:53:17 AM
Yup, it auto copied for me too, then I just pasted in place.
Here is what the code should look like( minus the beginning & end [], also minus the beginning & end IMG [].. I replaced with red parenthesis otherwise the code will go to link )

Jack,
I went into your test post and played with it, I got it to show a pic and link to it but it was not a thumb pic to link from. Not sure why not, maybe because you didn't originally set it up to do a thumb.
You can click edit your post and see what I did.
From the looks of the code you entered, you selected the "Share by email & IM" option, which will just give you a link.

Rufus,

That's weird, because I went specifically to the thumbnail image code.  But I'm still not getting "Paste" as an option when I come back into my message, no matter what I click.  This is odd.   ???

What browser are you using, and is it up to date?
It works just fine for me, I'm using Firefox 17.

Thanks to Rufus I'm happy to post this info.  If you're having trouble getting your image code to work, try using either "Ctrl+V" or "Shift+Insert" when entering your image code.  I was able to accomplish my photo insert using these methods.

Pagudpud Beach, Ilocos Norte
(http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g63/graywolf101/Philippines%20Trip%202006/th_PagudpudBeachPhilippinessmall.jpg) (http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g63/graywolf101/Philippines%20Trip%202006/?action=view&current=PagudpudBeachPhilippinessmall.jpg)

Subic Bay
(http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g63/graywolf101/Subic%20Bay%20day%20trip/th_100_1457.jpg) (http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g63/graywolf101/Subic%20Bay%20day%20trip/?action=view&current=100_1457.jpg)

Yep, the inserts work and are "clickable"!   :)   Thanks Rufus!  :)

Now if you go into the privacy setting, at the bottom you can set your albums to "private" and this will only allow the pic you linked to be viewed...for those that don't want everyone and their dog looking through your photos
As you have it set now, every pic in the linked album is viewable...

I changed the setting.  See how it does now.  When I click on the link, of course I can see them all, because it's my album.   :)

Let me know what you see.  Thanks!

I don't think it's retroactive...Try editing one of the pics to reflect new coding.

Use "IMG for bulletin boards & forums" then "Clickable thumbnail"

With help from Rufus, I can now post clickable thumbs from the "original" version of Photobucket.

However, even though I like the "new" version, I cannot locate an "IMG Thumb Code" for "Bulletin Boards & Forums" such as exists on the old version.

If anyone is using the new version and posting clickable thumbs to the Forum, please let me know where you are finding the code.

Thanks, Tom.

If you pull down the drop menu on your username, you can select user settings.
Then click the albums tab.
You can then select the "IMG thumb" box and this will set it as your default.
Then it will be in the Image link to the right after you click on the pic you wish to share.

Let's see if I have this correct:

Wow!  It worked!

Tom, in the new version of PhotoBucket, click on the photo you want to post.  Then open the "Image Links" pulldown menu.  When It opens, selct the Thumbnail image code (it should automatically "copy" for you)
Then place your cursor where you want it in your post and click "Ctrl+V" on your keyboard.

Hmmmmm... it worked last night, but now it's not.   GGGRRRRrrr!!!!!   >:(

Trying again after checking and changing some settings in PhotoBucket:

It's a thumbnail, but not a clickable variety.      ????
