Davao City Safe?
« on: February 13, 2010, 01:52:00 PM »
I hope to move to the Philippines by mid 2010.

Is Davao City a safe place for an American expat to reside? How about Davao Del Norte, which seems to be farther away from the most active adjoining rebel areas to the West? Does anyone know if there are many Caucasian expats living in the Davao area now? Thanks

Yes it is safe. Whenever we are there, we see numbers of foreigners in the beach, malls, restaurants. Yeah, I guess there are many expats who are living in Davao City. The northern part is nice too, it has big malls now.

I live in Davao and I\'m more concerned about traveling in Taxis than being kidnapped or robbed.
Yes Davao is quite safe.

Davao is very safe compared to even a small American City.  However, I would avoid the areas  around Agdao and along the Bay and Davao River, near Bankeron, after dark.  The highway to Digos, spooks me sometimes.  I would have to say that I think that Panabo might be a tough place for a foreigners.  The only close call I ever had was in Tagum in 1997.  These guys were way taller than me and I am 6 foot 1.
