Carrying Out of Good Cleanliness and Bandaging
HOME CLEANLINESS
INSIDE
1. Sweep the FLOORS in the house everyday and rub them often. Do not let anyone spit on the floor. 2. Keep the WALLS clean and free of insects. 3. Keep all SLEEPING MATS clean, and put them out in the sun for a while each day. 4. Keep ANIMALS out of the house.
OUTSIDE
1. Keep the TOILET clean and be sure all family members use it 2. Keep the GROUND around the house clean and drained of all pools or old tins of standing water 3. Keep ANIMALS away from places where the children play 4. Burn all household waste or bury it in a special pit.
BANDAGING: HAND, ARM OR LEG-BANDAGE ROLL
1. Put the bandage on the following figure 8 line.
PERSONAL CLEANLINESS:
1. Always wash HANDS with soap and clean water;
- after using the toilet
- before preparing food - before eating food
- and, clean your fingernails often
This will help prevent the family from getting sick with diarrhea.
2. Always wash the BODY with soap and clean water:
- everyday
- after working hard and sweati
- and, your hair at least twice a week
- and keep the clothing clean next to your, body
This will help prevent skin diseases.
3. Always BRUSH the teeth at least once a day. This will help prevent aching teeth and loss of teeth.
LISTENING TO BABY'S HEARTBEAT
1. Place your ear directly on the mother's bare skin below her navel. 2. The baby's heartbeat sounds like a watch ticking under a pillow. The baby's heartbeat is fast (usually between 120 to 160 beats a minute). 3. In order not to confuse the fetal heartbeat with the mother's feel the mother's pulse for comparison.
HIGH RISK PREGNANCY CHECKLIST
Refer to midwife if a pregnant woman has any of the following conditions:
1. This is her first baby
2. She has seven children and is over age 35
3. She has had abortions 3 or more
4. Last labor difficult with baby's death
5. Last labor difficult by operation
6. Very pale under eyelid
7. Vaginal discharge
8. Swelling of ankles
9. Edema
10. Dizziness
11. Vomiting
12. Fits
13. Vaginal bleeding before delivery
14. Breathlessness
15. Blue color of skin
16. Pulse 100 +
17. Frequency of urination (every 1/2 hour if over 4 months pregnant. 18. Baby's heart no longer beat movements of baby. 19. You feel for the position of the baby in the mother's body and fin the baby's head is not towards the birth opening. 20. The woman has cough and sputum for over two weeks
