Introduction
Dear Members,
I am not
comfortable at all with these "dictatorial," rules, below, at all. It is
not my style and not to my liking. But from experiences with
this List and large ones, it is the only way, I feel, we can serve the majority
of the members successfully and continue to grow.
*Application of Rules*
These mandatory rules were adopted after seeking the moderators wise advice and
guidance and accepting almost all of it. I feel they are reasonable rules,
harsh thought they may seem, and in the best interest of serving the List's
purpose. It's purpose is to help you and encourage you to consider
the Philippines as a place to live, retire, travel or do business here, and be
happier, and at the same time help the Filipino people by bring in foreign
exchange and better, happier guests for the Filipinos to enjoy.
If you can't accept the rules below, of the privately held list, now is
the best time to resign or make the decision to read, but not post to the List.
This list is not for everyone. No list is.
Since I am the owner of this group, I take full responsibility for the my
actions, the actions of the moderators and all List management. Please
understand, *this is a privately held group,* not a democracy. And
understand, this Group's rules, policies, and restrictions are not applicable to
me, nor to the moderators at my pleasure. The moderators help me with the
Group. They, like me, are volunteers and work hard and spend their
valuable time to provide this service to you and the Filipino people. This
list is operated at a financial loss. And it will probably stay that
way.
The moderators and I retain the right to delete, edit, comment, reject post,
moderate, ban, reinstate members, or whatever else we feel may apply.
And we are not required to provide notice or justification, though often we do
and welcome replies and suggestions at
LinP1Mods@yahoogroups.com . I also reserve the right to post
commercial messages on the list and commercials on the website and list.
No one else has that right. Request for paid advertisements, will be
considered. And I reserve the right to change these rules when I
feel necessary and *without notice.* The decisions of the moderators
prevail, right or wrong.

Rules of
The List
To keep the order necessary to provide you with the information you need
we need some rules and guidelines as below:
*Please stay "on topic." For example, if you want to talk about golf, that
is for the a golf list. But if you want to talk about golf in the
Philippines, this is the place. Off topics posts are a list killers.
Do not post them.*
*This is a non commercial, free list. This is not a place to promote
yourself or your business, or that of your business associates or friend's
businesses. Advertisements can be purchased on the website, only.
Signatures blocks and e-mail addresses with commercial domain names or
that in anyway indicate your businesses expertise are not allowed.
*Flames and profanity are not allowed. If you disagree, attack the
position, not the person, please! If you attack the person you will
be removed or banned, whether your position is right or wrong.*
*No Filipino or
any other nationality, race or religious group bashing is acceptable.*
*Post like, "Good post," "Thanks," "I Concur," or "Okay," are not welcome as
posting to the group as a whole. Please don't post them in the interest of
cutting down the mail load. You may however, send an email directly to any
member you wish to thank, or otherwise correspond with.
*This is not an introduction service, bride, husband or marriage service. We
don't sell or give out or ask for any names of Filipinas or Filipinos nor can
you.*
*Questions regarding laws and regulations related to living in the Philippines
are welcome. But almost all of the advice you get will be lay, not
professional advice. View it as such. And no one, lay
advisor or professional attorney is permitted to give advice on how to violate
or circumvent any laws or regulations. Keep in mind not only lay advisors
can be wrong, but professional ones too.*
*Request for donations, even for good causes, are banned.*
*Jokes are not welcome, unless they are Philippine related. Humor is
welcome. But this is not a joke list.*
*LINP3 is a wholesome group. LINP3 contents will be suitable for anyone
interested in the Philippines, man, woman or child.*
*Links to porn sites or site that link to porn sites or International
Introduction Services, sometimes called MOB services are not allowed.*
*On the LINP3 group we don't discuss Sexually Oriented Adult entertainment.
This includes 'girlie or bikini bars', sexually oriented massage parlors, or
business that otherwise facilitate prostitution, illegal in this country.*
*When one of the moderators or I say a topic is banned or off topic, that is the
end. If you wish to comment or question a Moderator's action, send your
response directly to the moderators, and not to the full LINP3 group. Use
email address,
LinP1Mods@yahoogroups.com as indicated below, under "Contacting the
Moderators.*
*All posts to this
List becomes property of Living in the Philippines and its owner, Don A.
Herrington.*

There are a number of circumstances when you should send an email directly to
email account
LinP1Mods@yahoogroups.com , *not* as a posting to the full LINP3 Group.

LINP3 Group. Again, send an email directly to the Moderators at
LinP1Mods@yahoogroups.com .
1) If you wish to respond to a Moderator's Action or Ruling. Moderator

Stopping E-mail Overload
Dear New Members,
We have 1,263 members as of today July 21, 2003, in
the Philippines. We continue to grow and so does our
number of post. We are averaging almost 100 post per
day. If that is to much for you, it is easy to
manage.
Just handle it properly as below: *
Go to:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LivingInThePhilippines3/
,
"Sign In" (if necessary),
Click the link which Reads: "Edit" (your membership)
Change your "Mail Pefferences" to "No E-mail."
That way, you can then read or delete selected
messages while online from Yahoo, instead of getting
them on your computer in your email client, Outlook
Express, Eudora or what ever. It may take a few
hours or more to take effect.
Or you can change to "Digest." The digest version
helps with mail management a lot too. But they come
in batches, together, easier to manage in your email
client. They should only come twice a day. If you
pay by the hour for your Internet connection time,
this may be better than the "No E-mail" option,
above. It also takes time to kick in.
There are other options, but these are simple and
will be all you need.
*Getting to the information, quickly.*
In the files section of our Yahoo Groups list, there
is a compressed 2.5 megabyte file from "Listbot"
with 1,300 or so messages on it. Download and read
it for quick information. There are some valuable
posts there, some of the best ever made, when the
list was fresh and we were too. We have some recent
archives. The list was hijacked a couple of months
ago and we lost 30,000 messages when the hijacker
deleted it. But we are uploading some we saved,
soon. In the past two months we have built a new
archive of 3,000 or so posts.
From this groups homepage of
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LivingInThePhilippines3/
there are a number of links which you may find
helpful or interesting.
"Files" -- miscellaneous information uploaded by our
members.
"Links" - bookmarks or favorites where you can get
additional information.
"Photos" -- view pictures uploaded by our members.
We have other lists for Photos of the Philippines.
But you have to join them before you can upload. Our
space on livinginthephilippines3 fills up so
quickly. The other lists for upload of photos only
are:
Livinginthephilippines3-join@yahoogroups.com ,
Livinginthephilippines4-join@yahoogroups.com ,
Livinginthephilippines5-join@yahoogroups.com ,
Livinginthephilippines6-join@yahoogroups.com .
The
LINP3 List is for member photos, LinP4 and LinP5
are for scenery and location photos, LinP6 is for
Filipino people at work, play and interacting in the
Philippines.
The "File" and "Links," links, above the "Photos"
may provide even quicker help and "do it yourself,

Living in the Philippines2 List Specific Guidance
*General Instructions and Comments*
*The Moderators are a great help. These gentlemen
are volunteers, no pay and often under appreciated.
Without them there would be no list.* (Remember you
can get their help at
LinP1Mods@yahoogroups.com .*
*Ask Specific Questions*
We also encourage your questions to be as specific
as possible. For instance, a question like: "How
much does it cost to build a house in the
Philippines?," is impossible to answer. It would be
necessary to know whether the house would be built
in the city or the countryside, how big a house,
whether it would be built to western standards, what
kind of materials would be used, etc. If you ask
your questions thoughtfully, our many knowledgeable
members will surely provide the information you
seek.
Please be aware our advice and that of our members
carries no guarantee. Opinions are only opinions,
advice is just advice - not gospel or law. We all
tend to generalize at times, in an effort to
communicate. This is to be expected and proper.
Sweeping generalizations should be characterized as
such. Bashing generalizations are against the rules.
You may get off list "great deal," " get rich quick"
offers we can't prevent, promises of massive returns
on investments. Neither "Living in the Philippines"
nor I, endorse any business proposals you may get
from anyone on or off the List. On List they are
prohibited. We cannot stop the Yahoo ads or not
until we change to private list server or message
board, an option under consideration. Some one may
contact you with an offer off list saying "I am a
member of the Living in the Philppines List, buy
from me." Please report them to a moderator as
LinP1Mods@yahoogroups.com . Being a member of
this list alone. does not make their product or
service more valuable or carry the group's
recommendation just because of their membership. Let
you, the buyer beware of spammers.
The "Official List Description" is
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LivingInThePhilippines3/
. It includes the rule, "No Filipino Bashing. . . ."

The E-mail Commandments
*Email Commandments* The "Commandments" (Not called
so in the biblical sense, but to infuse some humor,
written for many e-mail lists by an anonymous
author,) below, have become even more important as
the list grows The E-mail Commandments in size.
Please help yourself and others by reading and
applying them. I breach them all too often. Please
do not follow my example.
1) Thou shalt include a descriptive and specific
subject line. If you change subject, *thou shalt*
change the subject in the subject line to reflect
the new content.
2) Thou shalt edit any quoted text, from the post
you are answering, down to the minimum thou needest.
3) Thou shalt read thine own message thrice before
thou sendest it.
4) Thou shalt ponder how thy recipient might react
to thy message.
5) Thou shalt check thy spelling and thy grammar.
6) Thou shalt not curse, flame, name call, spam or
USE ALL CAPS, but thou may use all lower case
letters. For emphasis, use "*" *not* uppercase.
7) Thou shalt not forward any chain letter or *off
topic* joke.
8) Thou shalt not use e-mail for any illegal or
unethical purpose.
9) Thou shalt not rely on the privacy of e-mail,
especially from work.
10) When in doubt, save thy message overnight and
reread it in the light of dawn.
11) That which thou findest hateful to receive,
sendest thou not unto others.
12) Thou shalt not include tag lines with multiple
references to political campaigns, personal
websites, and pithy quotes.
13) Thou shalt absolutely never forward a virus
alert. If thou must, though shalt only forward a
link to a specific web page with the domain of the
seer Norton or the seer MacAfee, wherein the evil
virus is described.
14) When using Yahoo Web Mail, checketh the little
box that says "Wrap Message Text," so those who
seeketh knowledge from Yahoo do not have to
scrolleth herewith to eternity to obtain it. If your
text does not wrap - hit enter to force line breaks
often.
15) Thou shalt not ask members to contact you
directly for some information. But rather just make
the information available if you can, and feel it
would be of an interest to the group. Post the
information, if you can, upload a file if you must.
If you are concerned your posting would break the
rules of the group - ask the Moderators for
clarification first.
Wow, I know that was a lot to read. But it may help
you a lot if you are serious about this list. Again,
new friends, welcome to the Living, Retiring,
Traveling and Doing
Business in the Philippines. I hope it provides you
sound information, insights, and even dear friends,
as it has me. I know it can make your life happier
here or where ever you are if you areas, if you are
interested in the Philippines.
Very best always,
Don
