Halifax Bank

I thought this might be off interest to any other UK expats living or planning on living in the Philippines. I asked my bank, the Halifax, if once I was living permanently in the Philippines and domiciled there, would I be able to keep my UK account open for the purpose off having my pension paid into it and if I ever need to return to the UK. They told me that I could do so, but I couldn't open any other UK accounts while residing in the Philippines. They said all I had to do was let them know my address in the Philippines, no need to have a UK address and they would send replacement ATM card to me to that address every three years. I would off course have to pay charges for withdrawing money from an ATM machine. I hope this has been helpful.

Danilo,
I also bank with the Halifax and was told exactly the same by my local branch manager. This is obviously better for the customer because your money is protected in the Uk for a much larger amount than the banks in the Philippines which all seem to only be protected up too 500,000 php. Although you do not expect any bank to go belly up, it is far better to be safe than sorry.

I have been an expat for the past 36 years, with no address in UK and have no problem keeping my account with Lloyds.

The "Halifax" and "Bank of Scotland" amalgamated, with HBoS bring the result, quite a few years ago. Prior to that I had to use their individual sites for internet banking. Now my halifax accounts pop up on the BoS site.
HBoS is now owned by the "Lloyds Banking Group", so one must think, or at least hope, regulations are the same across the group.
Just a quick aside.
Only current accounts are able to access the UK banking system "FasterPay" service. Deposit accounts are not permitted access.
