Dead or alive?

I’ve noticed recently reading on other forums, it seems that it’s that time of the year where the Social Security Administration from the Manila U.S. Embassy are mailing out U.S. SSA benefits verification notices to those recipients residing in the Philippines to do a mandatory face to face interview to physically verify that one is still alive and kicking in order for their SSA benefits to continue to be deposited into their direct deposit accounts or local bank pass book accounts!
If one does not comply, their U.S. direct deposit accounts will be suspended until such time their proof of being alive and well is verified in person at the SSA office at the Manila U.S. Embassy!
I remember doing one about 5 years ago with just a 30 minute wait and 5 minute face to face interview! Fortunately we only live 45 minutes away from the U.S. Embassy, but with traffic the trip can take us 1 ½ hrs to get there! We took a rental car with driver to get there which wasn’t cheap! Sorry for others who live further away!
I’m just curious and don’t know for sure if these confirmation letters only came from the SSA and not also from OPM for civil service retirees, the retired military or V.A. recipients! I just wonder if it covers them all since they are all U.S. government agencies!
Has anyone received their verification letters yet and from what agency; SSA, OPM, Military or VA?
What a pain in the arse huh? Fortunately it\'s not an annual affair! Isn\'t there a better way for them to do this?
It seem like they\'re treating us all like 3rd rate U.S. citizens just by living abroad!

Nothing to worry about...
SS will be bankrupt soon...You won\'t have to do this again... :silly: :silly: :silly:

It won\'t just be one\'s SS benefits that will be affected by this method to determine if one is dead or alive, but all the other U.S. benefits one is receiving via direct deposit in order to live on here in the Philippines, let alone in the U.S.! :unsure: :ohmy:
