Check car owner?
Lunkan:
During I have checked RP second hand car adds, I have noticed both high asked prices, but some suprisingly/fishy cheap too.
Do RP have Register(-s) where owner and loans on the cars can be checked?

If you buy a used car, you should expect to get the original OR/CR (Official Receipt/Certificate of Registration) and also the deed of sale which proves that the seller is the owner. However it is also very common to get an open deed of sale, because the owner did not bother to transfer the registration to his own name. As long as you get the original docs, plus a photocopy of the seller\'s and last registered owner\'s IDs, and everything tallies, there should be no problem to buy the vehicle and transfer the registration to yourself if necessary. But if you are not familiar with the requirements, it is best to get a knowledgeable friend to help you check. Preferably before you part with any money ha ha.

another way is to go to LTO with the owner and make the purchase at the LTO and transfer paperwork with the owner present. If there is a lien on the title or the car is reported stolen, you didn\'t get screwed. Our last car purchase took 30-45 min at the LTO. They really cleaned up the corruption at the LTO the past few years.

Going to LTO is a good idea Metz if you plan to transfer the registration immediately. Usually if there are a few months remaining on the registration, I would prefer to wait and do the transfer when the current registration expires. But if there are doubts about the vehicle ownership, immediate transfer at LTO will put them at rest.

Don\'t forget car insurance while u are at it. 12k pesos for a year. Beware of fake insurance salespeople.
