What Is The Veterans Choice Card?

(1/3) > >>

Art, just a re(tired) Fil-Am:
I haven't read all of the specifics, so I don't know if this info will help any VA Vet living in the Philippines.

The Choice Card will be distributed in late 2014 and early 2015 to all Veterans enrolled for care at VA. The Choice Card provides "back-up" care if a Veteran cannot be seen by VA in 30 days or if VA's closest medical facility is challenging to access. In situations like this, Veterans are eligible to receive care outside VA.

Veterans will receive a letter in the mail along with the Choice Card and information about eligibility. The cards will be mailed first to those who VA believes are in immediate need and meet the eligibility requirements.

Notice: You may have recently received your Choice Card. If you have not received it yet, there is no need to do anything. Due to the substantial number of cards being mailed, they are being sent over a period of approximately 90 days. If you have recently moved or otherwise changed your primary residence, please fill out the VA Form 10-10EZR to update your information, contact your Enrollment Coordinator at your nearest VA medical facility, and/or call 1-877-222-VETS (8387).

The Choice Card will augment other treatment options already available at VA and is designed to improve wait times and access. It does not impact existing VA health care or any other VA benefit – it just offers other options for care when VA can't meet Veteran needs.

> The Choice Card cannot be used unless eligibility circumstances apply regarding VA wait times or facility accessibility. Please refer to the eligibility requirements to see if you qualify for Choice Card benefits.

> Veterans should first assess their eligibility given the criteria.

> If you believe the eligibility circumstances apply to you and you are currently in need of medical services, please call 866-606-8198 to verify your eligibility and get assistance accessing care.

> If you do not seek or receive approval by calling this number, you may be responsible for some or all of the costs of the non-VA treatment you receive.

> The authorization process is simple and just takes one quick phone call, but Veterans should only call if they believe they are currently eligible for benefits.

> To avoid long wait times, Veterans should only call the provided number if they believe they are currently eligible for Choice Card benefits.

> If Veterans are not eligible to use the Choice Card right now, they should keep their card in a safe and convenient location in the event their circumstance changes.

UNGGOY:
Considering this is a Philippines themed forum, the Choice Card would be useless to most of us.

You got a problem with it?  Report it to the moderator.  I want to hear about it even though currently, it is useless to me.

If you look this is in the part of the forum titled "US Military Veterans Benefits".  If it does not interest/apply to you, you can ignore it.  It does apply to forum members in the Philippines that utilize VA benefits.  You also wanted to know what VA Travel Benefits are on another post just ignore it since it seems it would not apply to you.  If you haven't noticed by know the forum has many subject/topic areas since it is a mixed group.  Not all subjects/topics will apply or interest all members.  You have the ability to mark topic/post as read so they will not appear in your notifications again.

There are a lot of members of forums who go back and forth like my wife and I do, there are also a lot of people planning to move to the Philippines and others planning to move back to the states and other countries, therefore all information like the above is good to be posted if it might help members and readers, the above wont help me because I am not former military but I sure as heck will not complain about it being posted and neither should any member.

If a member sees a post that they think is inappropriate then please hit the report icon and let us moderators decide.

BTW, thank you for your posts Unggoy, Art and everyone else.
