Samsung have always been in the forefront of this technology. It's interesting that the CNBC people didn't carry (or maybe omitted for whatever reason as far as I can see/hear from their video segment or maybe I just missed it  :-[ ) the reason Samsung quoted for the delay in rolling this technology out, and I quote

 " ..... Clearly, the tech exists, but that's really only the very first step to a gadget you can buy, as Samsung's mobile CEO DJ Koh suggested to CNBC when he said that the impetus for finally bringing the product to market is not technology, but rather a consumer survey indicating there's actually some demand. Enough to finally plow through with a concept that's been kicking around for about five years now, .... " Unquote.

Thanks Peter, I do not know about most other people besides women and men with carry bags but the phones are getting harder and harder for me to carry, as I use them more and more for just about all I do online. My wife's phone is a Samsung 7 Edge but I am a cheapie so my phone is an Asus Zenfone 4 Max which has a 5.5 inch screen and the only reason I did not buy a larger phone is that mine is as large as I can manage to carry, so a folding larger phone a least for me would help me to only need one device for all my needs and I suspect that would hold true for many other people too, if the price of the Samsung folding phone is not outrageous.

My main mobile 'phone is a Nokia E61i which I've had since 2007. It does what I want - makes calls/texts and has a real keyboard, as well as a metal backplate!!! It bounces when I do a "drop test". It has a wifi function, but the security is only WEP. Nokia do not have an o/s (Symbian) update for this model, so I don't/can't connect online when out and about. I carry it in an innocuous belt holder.

I also have a Samsung ACE (7 years old) with a 3" screen, or thereabouts (no active SIM card), which I carry as well when out, to use for general (free) web surfing in the coffee shop. I normally wear cargo pants or shorts with leg pockets, so carry it in a secured pocket.

I have a tablet, free courtesy of Smart for renewing our contract 7 years ago. (We've had 3 tablets and one phone free from Smart over the years but they always seem to disappear into our daughter's domain until the next one comes. LOL!) I use the tablet mainly as an eBook reader, but sometimes when I'm too lazy to switch on one of the laptops, I use it to read mail or news online.

All our online transactions are carried out in as secure a fashion as possible (as far as I can anyway) on a specific, wired, home device.

My daughter(s) and grandsons, of course, have different thoughts on how large the screens of their devices should be. iPhone and Oppo 7 seems to be currently in vogue with them. I can live without the internet (no FB/Twit or other social media accounts. except some private fora and Yahoo type closed groups), for a few days anyway.

The internet does save me from buying a number daily newspapers though. ;) ;) ;)

I don't find the physical size of a mobile phone to be so much of a problem as the weight.  I currently use an iPhone X, and even with a folding protective case, the phone slips easily into my pocket.  For me the disadvantage of the folding phone is the tiny screen that is inevitable with this type of form factor.
