Money exchange rates sure do change quickly huh?

Wow! Just the other day I exchanged a few dollars at P43.38 to the dollar and
today it's up to P43.82! I bet come Monday it'll be back down again as usual!

The Fed gave indications that interest rates will go up. The bond funds are slipping a bit as a reaction to that news. In a stable economic market, higher US interest rates will make the USD more attractive to buyers. Its good for me, bad for Peso holders until the PH banks start to match the rates.

Argentina defaulted on their bonds last Thursday week which sent the US stock into a bit of a fit, not sure why but the market had taken a bit of nose dive on Thursday and Friday, I am wondering how that is going to affect the peso dollar exchange rate, I guess we will see on Monday.

Argentina moving their money to USD, bidding up the dollar I think is a non event.

It's now Monday and it only has gone down to P43.70 to the dollar from P43.82 yesterday, Sunday.

The peso breached the 44-peso territory against the dollar on Thursday when it closed at 44.08 from the previous day's 43.71.

Total volume transacted at the Philippine Dealing System amounted to $1.33 billion, higher than the $833.7 billion posted on Wednesday.

The peso opened Thursday at 43.82.

That's good news, but I don't have anymore dollars to exchange for this month!
Just wonder how long this trend will continue or not! Have to wait and see!
Luckily the currency exchange rate still haven't yet dropped below our personal
minimum comfort zone and I hope it doesn't even come close for a long time or
we would be in terrible trouble, but I believe that won't happen in my lifetime!

I expect the dollar to get stronger as interest rates are creeping up. My bond values are dropping , but the currency exchange difference is keeping me at the same pretty much the same level in Pesos.

The big question is -- where to from here? I could make a case for both directions which means of course I don’t know.

When I was stationed at Clark AB in 1968
the exchange rate was P4.00 to $1 US

When we first arrived here in 1998 it was at P44.98

2004 was a good year at P56.03

Today 2014 it's at P44.13

Art, I like the rate from 68, as I think back I can remember 12 to 1, maybe from the 70's?  But the with the  difference in prices from then and now it was not too bad...I got here this time in March 2011 so if you look at Hitek's chart its about the same...seems like I remember it going to 40 to 1 a couple of years ago?  Truth is I dont really follow it too much, I kinda figure I'm gona be here anyway so you have to go with the flow. That said, it would be nice if it would stabilize somewhere around 45..
