Over the counter cash advance with a foreign card?
« on: December 23, 2019, 10:52:22 PM »
Anyone know if an over the counter cash withdrawal using a non-Filipino bank issued Visa/Mastercard debit card is possible? Anyone done it? What's the maximum that can be withdrawn? Is it capped?

BDO said they can only do a cash advance using a BDO card. But then, I learned that information can be arbitrary sometimes.

I don't know about inside OTC cash withdrawals, but my non-Filipino bank debit cards work in MetroBank ATMs. Maximum of PhP 10,000 per pull, with 3 pulls a day. That's a  MetroBank imposed in limit, not my foreign banks limit.

I could, but never tried, go around other banks and withdraw up to my own bank's daily limit. But that's an assumption, not a proven deed.

PS. Make sure you have informed your non-Filipino bank you will be using your cards while here. A friend didn't and found his cards were frozen on the first try.  :(

Yes, overall you will find that things in the Philippines are pretty much exactly as Peter says. Most probably nearly every bank-wall ATM in the Phils will quite reliably give you 10k Peso for each ask, with a max of 3 a day. And they have been doing it for over ten years now.

It doesn't seem to matter much what account you have, or where. It appears to be a reliable fact that if your card has a visa or mastercard etc account logo imprint on the card, and it's presented at any Philippines bank ATM, it's good as gold.

Cheers .. and please have a perfectly splendid Christmas everybody :)

Yes and even higher. The catch is it only applies to their BPI cards. Other cards are limited to P10,000. PH cards will be charged between P11-P15. Foreign cards are charged P250 plus any fees your home bank nails you with.
Thank you...God Bless...

Steve, I routinely use my US debit card at BPI ATM and take 20,000 at a time. BPI is the only one that I have found so far that lets me do that. The other ATMs only 10,000
