Mystery patch KB 3035583 for Windows 7 and 8 revealed
Lee2:
Caution, I have hid that update every darn time they send it to my computer. IMHO something nefarious has to be going on for them to be trying to force windows 10 on people. They have sent that update to me at least 3 times and the reason I am posting this is because they sent it to me yet again today.

Our two new laptops have the Windows 8.1 OS. Since I'm not a computer savvy geek, I don't see what Boogeyman is lurking behind this so called mystery patch. At this point, is it going to do any damage to one's OS if one upgrades to the Windows 10 OS? I haven't a clue. Is paranoia just setting in for some unknown reason? Should we Windows 7 and 8.1 OS users be concerned with this mystery patch? If so, please explain it to non-savvy PC users and advise what to do if is one is considering to upgrade to the Windows 10 OS. ??? :o

Art, if you want windows 10 and all that goes with it, then the patch will get you that. I have learned over time that if I am happy with something, then there is no need to change it, in other words, if it ain't broke then don't fix it. It seems to me that MS has some ulterior motive to try to force everyone to 10, time will tell what it may be but I am sure it will cost us money. Some people online have already said that if you do upgrade, be sure to read every one of the notices and untick just about all of them or MS gets the right to spy on everything you do, the internet spy's on us all enough already, I do not need MS seeing everything I do and sending me more ads, trying to sell me more stuff that they think I need.
I am no expert but I read a lot and a lot of people are not happy that MS is sort of forcing everyone to 10 with this update, they have never done that before with any past operating system in my lifetime and while it is great that they offer 10 for free, I have found that nothing in life is really free and when I upgraded to 7, that a lot of my programs and my printer would no longer work. One program that I used to keep my finances was MS Money, by upgrading to 7 it forced me to go to MS Money Sunset which sucked, thus I was then forced to buy Quicken which I feel also sucks when compared to my original MS Money program that was very user friendly. I am not about to buy any other products because of an update, I am getting old and set in my ways, so I do not like change, and I sure as heck do not need any new stuff forced on me for the benefit of MS.

I too would not want to upgrade to Windows 10 unless I'm forced into it. Actually, I'm still happy with Vista on my desktop until there is no longer tech support like what happened to XP, which I no longer have anyways.
That's why I was also inquiring about the Ubuntu OS, which I have not yet got a handle on it, because of laziness on my part to understanding how it works, but eventually I will still look further into Ubuntu and see if it can be a viable option as a stand alone OS instead of relying on any of the Windows operating systems, but for now what we're using, Vista and 8.1 will suffice for now since they're both working fine.
JoeLP:
Tina upgraded to windows 10 right away. I played with hers a bit, as well as helping her by going through the install. Then I upgraded immediately there after. Here's what I found both with the upgrade and the new system.
1. When installing it, you are asked to setup a windows(microsoft) account. You can use any email address you currently have, or create an actual microsoft/MSN account on their setup. I just used my gmail and checked no on every "auto update" or "auto downloads" and gave it no permission at any time to access my information.
2. The install, even with the awfully slow net connection here took a total of 8 hours of download and install time total.
3. The new system is much lighter, quicker, and also speeds up all my other software. I honestly don't think my computer has run this quickly since I moved here over 2 years ago. Much more smooth and much better efficiency. Very happy with it.
4. It has yet to pause, catch, glitch or crash.
My belief is that windows is trying more and more to become Apple. Trying to "remove" dos as much as it can and put everything on the windows setup. The games that I downloaded are now all apps. All free. There are many games that I already had in windows 7(all the solitaires and such) as well as many new ones. Downloaded them and play them, but it's really becoming a "tablet style" system but on a pc. Dos is just flat out disappearing. This might not mean much to some or many on here, but almost all the of games I use to play were dos based games. They still work, but seems that a few of them have been removed from the dos version to windows version and for each one I was given a free download to "update" to the new version. I think this is where windows is going so they can better contain the softwares that are installed on their systems and better regulate their system to stop the crashes.
When I was taking computer science in college, the common thought was that Apple was more dependable, but much more restrictive to software engineers. Now I see microsoft starting to become restrictive just like Apple. Wanting to get more control so they can stop the "bad" from happening. I never finished my studies in computer science and went to teaching instead. That said, I could be way off. That was getting a while back when windows was very small in numbers and dos ruled the world in the big games. So, I could be way off. Just based on the 2 years of education I got and on what I'm seeing.
I am very happy working with windows 10, that's for sure. And I don't think any of my data has been accessed or hacked.
