Older vehicles in the Philippines
Lee2:
In the past I had been told by a few people that the Philippines would not allow the renewal of registration of older vehicles, is that still the situation and is there a way around it?
suzukig1:
The subject comes up every so often because of air pollution. There was a proposal a while back to ban cars 15 years and older but nothing ever came of it.
JoeLP:
Many 5 year old Jeepneys produce more pollution than many of the much older cars. This is the Philippines being the Philippines.
Industries pushing fumes into the air along with all the Jeepneys, and they want to take a bite out of car owners? Cut back on the industrial pollution and the jeepneys and show the people you really mean business.
I know there was new laws passed on the Jeepneys needing to be upgraded and all...but I just do not see it happening the way it was wrote. That law will probably be used for political purposes...but not for an across the board enforcement of cleaning up the Jeepney industry. And the industrial business lines too many pockets of government workers. Don't see them going in direction.

I just recently renewed my reg for my 25 yr old car. BTW: The emissions on my car is almost equal to a car 3-4 yrs old. My body is rotting out but the engine is sound. Using synthetic oil helps.

I use the Shell HX7 synthetic blend but since I don't even drive half of what I used to in US yearly (about 20k then), I can't justify the cost of using the full synthetic. My oil just doesn't take the abuse where I would need the full. As it is, I get it changed at an interval before it's life expectancy gives out. Then again, my car only has a couple of years on it but I never keep them longer than several anyway.
