Do you know anything about this?

Josie is a US Citizen and works in the US and pays into SS.

We are 20 years apart in age. I am older (smile)

I just recently heard and have not asked social security about this but I heard that if I die and when Josie turns 62 she will be able to get my social security if mine is more money than hers.

Any info will be good

If you are the widow or widower of a person who worked long enough under Social Security, you can:

receive full benefits at full retirement age for survivors or reduced benefits as early as age 60.

begin receiving benefits as early as age 50 if you are disabled AND the disability started before or within seven years of the worker's death.

If I'm not mistaken the spouse has to proof that they have lived in the US for five consecutive years prior to receiving the benefits. I read that some time back, don't know if it is still applicable.

If they are not a U.S. citizen.
