Title: Things that you hoard the most
Post by: Lyn on October 20, 2010, 01:53:11 PM
As I was sorting my stuff last night, I have noticed that I hoard lots of wrist watch. I am now on my 30+ pieces. I have at least a piece of any popular brand, you name it. Recent addition to the hoarding is a burberry piece.  :-X :-X :-[ ;) I dont have a rolex yet.

I am a wrist watch fanatic, an addict if you must say. What\'s yours?

I had 50 old school cameras that I bought at flee markets over a few decades. Some taking the roll film BEFORE the 35mm.  Why collect cameras?? Hell if I know, they just looked interesting to me.  Even now, I don\'t have a working camera.  ::)

When I moved to retire here in the Philippines in 04, I gave/shipped them across the Country to a camera buff, (taking some COOL pictures), I knew online when with internet AOL.

AOL, that\'s HISTORY also LMAO

10\', 16\', 31\', 42\', 54\'

.I hated to see boats \"wasting\" away so bought them really cheaply and fixed them up

I have an awful lots of nuts and bolts, washers, clips, stuff like that,  but it is a useful selection, that I use from time to time, not some sort of maniacal dedication to filling my house with stuff.

Sometimes people (mainly our wives) get annoyed at junk like that.... but just this week our shower door fell apart - the screws holding it together slipped through the soft aluminum hole they were mounted in..... wife got stuck in the shower - funny...

Pulled out the washers that had been sitting idle for a few years and it was fixed in 10 minutes !

The only watch I loved was a midnight blue Movado that I treated myself to while working in Switzerland in 2001/2

Just like this one, it is actually blue NOT black

I\'m a sucker for purses...let\'s just say if I sell them all back, i could get a decent house in the Phils.  Another weakness is shoes, I guess it\'s the Filipino in me.  From sandals, stilletos, running shoes, boots, u name it, I got it.  Now my hubby promised to make me a nice shoe rack as soon as I come up with the design.  Any ideas?

Alohalani, you and my asawa would get along.  When i married her and we moved in together, i opened a 55 gallon tote and it was full of bags.  I started taking them out and saw they were coach. I have no clue about bags and brands and didn\'t care till i got to bottom of tote and saw a Coach catalog.  I was able to estimate that low end value for the bags was near $8K.  Then she had yet another tote that same size with more Coach, and other big name brand bags(Louis Vaton(sp?), and others).  Then i found her first tote of shoes.  Too much for our closet, so i go to my fathers workshop and build her a shoe rack with 24 feet in length of shoe rack space.  She filled in first night, and i saw she still had more in a tote, so thinking i would take care of the problem for good, i build a 5 level shoe rack with each shelf 8 feet long.(40 feet of shoe storage) and she filled that in one day.  I take the remainder of the loose wood i have and build a third shoe rack to fit in the only open space along the bedroom wall left.(about 12feet shoe rack space).  She fills that in a couple hours.  I ask her what she has left.  She smiled at me, kissed me, said salamat mahal, this is the most storage i ever had for my shoes, now I can display all my summer footwear at once and all my winter footwear at once.  She still had 3 totes full of winter footwear.

Going into this relationship i honestly thought my collection of star wars figurines that dated from the original and valued at about $5K was the most expensive collection we would need to insure.  My wife has both a shoe and a bag collection that are each more valuable than my collection.  (Probably worth more than everything i owned outside my cars and house)

I bet she has a hell of a good income/job to support that sort of shoe addiction. I know nothing about shoes, but I\'d guess \'Coach\' is not exactly entry-level footwear.  ;D  ;D

And here was me thinking my wife was an \'addict\', with her dozen pairs of fancy footwear and handbags.  :-[ I shan\'t complain about it ever again.

Bing has one transparent plastic handbag so that does not need to open it at the store security checks. It also makes it easier to find things amongst all the junk she keeps in it.  ;D I think she has 2 pairs of shoes, the same as me.

I bought two pairs of trainers in New York, two years ago. (buy one, get the second pair free) They\'ll probably last me another couple of years I reckon. I also have some Pilipino Crocs, 500 pesos in Savers Mall.

Shoes look and fit far better when they are nice and cheap, something women don\'t appreciate. They\'d rather spend $100 on a pair of shoes that kill their feet, can\'t be danced in, and only get worn once......  ;D

Custom pool cues and small firearms - used to have  :\'( :\'( :\'( 23 cues and 14 small firearms -- but, as part of the \"bi-continental lifestyle\" preparation... l picked my two favorites of each  :) and sold the rest  :(.

My \"treasure hoard\" is a little skinny now... Beretta 84F; Seecamp 380; two Thomas Wayne cues... but I love it just the same. ;D

Yes, your wife and I will make good shopping partners.  lol! Thanks for the idea!  I should make my husband turn our spare bedroom into shoe & purse storage  :D I\'m getting so excited just thinking about it...hahaha!  Yes, Coach, Gucci, Louis Vuitton are pricey, but they\'re all so pretty ;D What\'s great about them is that they maintain their value just like a Mercedes car.

Funny because my husband used to complain about Coach purses, then I started getting Gucci & Louis Vuitton.  Now, he said he\'ll be more than happy or even ecstatic if I get a Coach purse ;D

So true!  The shoes that hurt the most, look the greatest  ;) I look at it this way, SHOES always fit and make your feet look fabulous whether you gain or lose weight, whether you\'re 21 or 65.

Until you peel them off, pour the blood out, and look at the carbuncled, bunion-clad, distorted grotesquery that was once a normal healthy female foot.  :o

I don\'t see why shoes can\'t be comfortable.

Can\'t they simply make a fashion where shoes are practical, comfortable and inexpensive?  ???

As with many things, people are attracted to the opposite sex for a variety of reasons.  For some, looking at a woman with nice shoes is a big plus. (Yes, I\'m guilty)

As for watches, I love my Tag Heuer.  Last time I was in Thailand I bought quite a few of the knockoffs, and while I did like a few, I keep coming back to my Tag.

A woman will pay P1000 for a P2000 item she doesn\'t need

I\'m a cigar smoker.  Good cigars improve with age.  Some will improve with age up to 15 - 20 years.  The cigars I smoke have to be at least 5 years old.  So I keep a rather large inventory of cigars.

Currently I have about 3400 cigars.

LOL - my wife loves to go browse around what she calls the \"discount stores.\" (yeah, right)  When I ask her what she is going to get, she tells me she is \"going to see if they have anything she needs.\"  ;D

That\'s right, she has to go to the store to look for stuff that she doesn\'t know she \"needs\" until she sees it at the store... and since its \"on sale\"... well of course she then has to buy it to save us money.  :o

LOL, Coach is primarily her bags.  Her shoes are all different name brands. Some I\'ve heard of, some I have not.  But all upper class.  I fear going by the shoe store in mall, she can stay in there for hours.  I\'m not kidding.  She does mostly shop in the \"discount\" area.  Which means when she buys a $500 pair of Louis Vouton(sp? i think there\'s an i in there somewhere also) they only cost her $200.  They what is her reasoning for buying them?
\"Honey, I saved us $300.\" Acting like it didn\'t cost us $200 to do it.
As for the comfort, that is the reason she is in store for hours.  Odd woman will also justify her purchase with a like like \"There was a better pair of shoes, but the didn\'t fit my feet right and would\'ve hurt.  And they only would have saved us $200.\"  Leaving out they would have been $100, not $200.
And to whoever said men do not look at shoes but women do, when in phils, i noticed certain men do look at shoes, mine included.(took me a bit to get over) And just about every woman notices what every other women is wearing even if there are a thousand women walking by her in Mall Of Asia.  Because an hour later I\'ll get the, \"remember the woman wearing the white vested top with red shorts? i like her blue gucci shoes\" and I\'ll just give her they look saying \"don\'t go any further, we pasted  150 women with white tops, and do you think i care what style the tops are, let alone you now expect me to remember what color bottoms they are wearing and the shoes on top?\"

Trevor

I have told my wife a hundred times not to buy me shorts or T shirts, as I don\'t need them, don\'t wear the ones she buys, and it is guaranteed the shorts won\'t fit my wide beam.

I threw out loads of clothes when we moved to the PI, anything that I\'d not worn for a year (or ever!) went to charity or the rag bin.

Years ago I had this very conversation with a couple of gentlemen who had been on the carnival their entire lives. One of the men collected clowns and he could tell you all about all of his dolls/figuerines.  Over the years they had gone up and down in value depending on demand.  It was interesting the listen to Don tell about his hobby.

After Don was finished talking I looked over at Harry, Harry gave me a little smile and very quietly said \"I collect $100 dollar bills, I always know exactly what they are worth and I have never lost a penny on my collection\".  Made sense to me so I started doing the same.

I used to collect dollars but I lose a lot of value cause the government inflation and money printing.  My peso collection is pretty big however.
