Title: PC Gamers
Post by: rainymike on December 31, 2007, 05:04:24 AM
I\'ve played Lineage II for a couple of years now and have made friends from all over the world as a result. Recently, the company making Lineage sold a franchise to a Filipino company and they now host the game for the RP, Malaysia, and Singapore from the Phils.

Any other pc gamers out there? (I\'m a nerd what can I say?). Although I can\'t play on the Southeast Asian servers until I move to the RP, I wouldn\'t mind getting to know other gamers.

Mike,

I\'m a PC gamer, although all of my gaming is with a paramilitary group.  I like to relieve my stress by killing insurgents a few nights each week.  Nothing relieves stress like gutting someone with your bayonet.   ;D

Can you send me a link to the website for Lineage II?  I\'ll check it out, as I intend to continue my late night gaming when I relocate and may need someone like you to keep me sane, or as close to sane as I can get.  Ha!

I only play Age of Empires against the computer at the moment, and cheat if i am loosing  :) . I have thought of trying some of these online games, but wonder if the internet links here are fast enough. I use SmartBro, which is the most readily available, and it can get very slow at times.

Yeah, that can be a problem.  I\'m on a broadband connection here with 10mps connection and still I lag at times.  I may not be able to play my Joint Ops game \"over there\".  But by the time I move, it may not be something I play anyway.  We\'ll see.

Colin,

I also play the same type of games against the computer. Empire Earth, Age of Empires, all the Command & Conquer/ Red Alert series. Just finished Age of Mythology (great fun) and now onto World in Conflict ( Jack - you would LOVE this) Russia invades USA - tank battles, air support, artillery strikes, snipers - YEEHAA!

If anyone can recommend other titles in this genre please let me know. I also like games that require problem solving as part of the action, like Resident Evil, Silent Hill etc.

Keith,

Yeah, man, now you\'re talking my language!   ;D  I was a sniper in Viet Nam and I love playing against guys who have no idea about what it\'s all about in real life.  I have some of them scratching their heads and wondering about me, I\'m sure.  But it\'s all in fun.  We have as much fun with each other as a bunch of grade school kids!  I\'ve met some of my fellow gamers in real life and they are all great guys.  Most of them are ex military and enjoy playing the game to relive their youth.  The best thing about this is you don\'t really bleed.  Ha!

I\'ll have to check out some of the games you guys enjoy.  Maybe I can find another outlet for my frustrations.   :D

Keith,

I have played Empire Earth and Age of Mythology but have not yet tried the Command & Conquer series. Another similar one that I have got but not yet tried is Company of Heroes. For some light relief try Rollercoaster Tycoon, my daughter has really got hooked on that one.
I also enjoy MS Flight Sim. I have flown all around Manila Bay, but I have had trouble landing a 747 on Puerto Princesa runway  :(

Guys,

You must try World in Conflict then, Jack. Bigger picture stuff, running a whole battlefield scenario but its great calling in carpet bombing or napalm - as a British comedian once said about solving \'issues\' ...Round them all up, put em in a field and BOMB THE B**TARDS!  - Kenny Everet.

Colin, you will definitely enjoy Command  & Conquer 3 \'Tiberium Wars -Kane Edition\'. Same game engine but futuristic weapons to EE or AOE.

For solo games, I really enjoy Hearts of Iron, a strategy WW II game. You control one nation and it\'s pretty historical with WWII events. But it does have some bugs in it.

For multiplayer games, I like Lineage because of the graphics. It was developed in Korea and is very popular there and other countries in Asia. In Lineage, you select a character and spend lots of hours developing it, collecting money, and trading for better gear. The neat thing about the game are the weekend sieges, when you and your clanmates attack or protect a castle. In heavily populated servers, its not unusual to have a couple hundred people fighting it out for a castle. Graphics are superb and combat is a lot of fun -- once you have developed a good character and in a decent clan. It\'s a huge game to download.

L2 for Americans/Europeans has a monthly fee. L2 SEA is still in beta and free, but lower fees will eventually kick in.

Anyway, if interested, here are the links to Lineage II for North America and its Southeast Asian counterpart:

NorthAm:  http://www.lineage2.com/

SouthEastAsia: http://lineage2.ph/

There is a forum for this game at: http://www.l2guru.com/forum/

You will find a lot of posts there and videos of gameplay if you want a preview. You will notice that a lot of the players are really serious about this game ... lol.

Whew ... I\'m glad I\'m not the only computer nerd here ... lol

Mike,

I got into gaming when my son in law gave me my 1st First Person Shooter game, Joint Ops.  You can play solo, but it\'s more fun with a clan of players who all know each other.  I played tonight for a while in between posting here.  My high score tonight, by the way, was 238 kills.  One shot per kill!  This ol\' country boy can shoot, even on a computer.  Ha!  I\'ve upgraded my game 7 times and currently play on level 29 of a 50 level game portal called International Conflict.   Some of these boys do nothing but play all day.  I can\'t waste that much time, but I do enjoy getting online and talking with my fellow clan members while we work a mission.  Some of the missions are very long and require hours to complete.  We do it all on there.  Parachute into enemy territory, locate ammo dumps and communications dishes and destroy them, all the while trying not to get killed by enemy forces who inhabit the territory.  We even have matches from time to time where we invite other clans to take us on.  Then we\'re working against other live players from all over the world.  Lots of fun!

I think when I finally retire, I\'ll try to devote a few hours daily to play games. Yeah it is fun playing with an international community, but playing with the younger crowd helps keep me young...although I eventually find a handful of us older types actively playing. And I\'ve made good friends. LOL ... was recently invited to Singapore to a clanmates wedding.

Maybe once this board gets populated with members, there will be enough people playing some common games for a LIP clan ... lol.

Yeah, that would be fun!  I need to make sure I can get the best internet connection available.  Maybe they\'ll discover something new in the next 4 years.  I don\'t seem to have much of a choice in the Vigan area, where we plan to settle.  But, Like I said, there is a few years to go.  They could come a long way in another 3 - 4 years.  We\'ll probably all be getting everything available via satellite by then.   ;D  Let\'s hope!  Ha!

See ya!

Im waiting for DIablo III and have been for years !
I do have 2 beta invite cards from Blizzcon 08 but already used the mount codes for my raiders...

If you are into Role Playing Games... there was a $15 monthly Dungeons and Dragons... that just last month became FREE TO PLAY !

at http://www.ddo.com

You can play from Philippines ... but you NEED to have someone in USA create the initial account for you ! But it plays 100% fine in any country...

They work like local games now - its FREE but you can buy things such as better weapons, stat boosters, etc with real money...  Just again - someone from USA must log in and make the actual purchase for you.... remote desktop works fine for this also..

SOME local ISPs DONT work for my Xbox360 to play online - so you might have the same problem with PS3... namely my 3meg connection HATES the xbox - so I use the slower ISP for the Xbox... the sad thing is that you are usually bound to a contract before you have time to test out each and every toy in your house with the ISP...

That reminds me to share an email I sent to Murf... about what FREE games to play - heres the copy and paste of that email:

G force Graphics Card

IN gaming there are only 2 graphics cards. G-Force is at the top of the list with teh other being \"ATI\" so you are ok - escpecially if its a Geforce 4 or newer

There are MANY categories of games - the Pharoah one you mention falls under the category of \"SIM\"/\"Simulation\" type games... Others in this category include but are not limited to

Sim City - the ones who pioneered the SIM revolution back in 1989.
The first version looked like this in 1989
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b0/SimCity_Mac.png)

Today Sim City part 4 looks like
(http://simcity.ea.com/images/about/tour/tour_smarts_screenshot_01.jpg)

Now yes, there are many different types including the Egypt one you played - and a whole line under the ... TYCOON name...  even \"Amusement park Tycoon\" ones and I saw just last week a JAIL SIM called Prison Tycoon! You you can manage your own prison - that was a funny one!

LINKS TO PLAY FOR FREE:
SIM CITY is now FREE at http://simcity.ea.com/play/simcity_classic.php (http://simcity.ea.com/play/simcity_classic.php)

Another type of game is the ONLINE MMO (or multiplayer games) where you can meet REAL people who are playing at a PC that exact moment and join with them for treasure or fight against them. There is EVERYTHING MMO from Racing cars to DANCING ONLINE to Military spcial ops battles to Dungeons and Dragons to Karate and all 100% FREE !!!

The ONLINE MMO\'s is where I spend most of my attention. They are ALL FREE but stay in business because you can BUY upgrades online for your game.... such as DOuble treasure for a day at around $1 or a new sword for 25 cents... it may sound small but when you have 100,000 people who can potentially buy those items the \'micro-transactions\' really add up.

The Filipino games people online speak Tagalog but once you get past that the game play is AWESOME try here:
http://www.e-games.com.ph (http://www.e-games.com.ph)
and
http://cabal.e-games.com.ph (http://cabal.e-games.com.ph)

to get free games like my wifes favorite: MULTIPLAYER DANCING ONLINE ! she spent P100 to buy new clothes and sunglasses for her dancer - you can buy items from your cellphone too by sending a txt !  ;D

Screen shot shows 16 people dancing together in a \'battle\'

If you want military action - its in Philippines too ! http://op7.com.ph/ (http://op7.com.ph/)
This is one of the TOP military games - but im not too into shooting if theres no magic and spells involved
(http://www.op7.com.ph/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/ops7-launcher.jpg)

One of my favorites is CABAL http://cabal.e-games.com.ph (http://cabal.e-games.com.ph)
Amazing graphics for a FREE game
(http://cabal.e-games.com.ph/images/screenShots/screenshot25_big.jpg)

Another type of online game is the Yahoo games type - checkers, scrabble, chess http://games.yahoo.com/free-games (http://games.yahoo.com/free-games)

Personally I just started Dungeons and Dragons online this month... It was $15 a month to play for the past 3 years... now its 100% FREE ! at http://www.ddo.com (http://www.ddo.com) The only problem is that you have to REGISTER from a computer in USA (Philippines is outside their supported area) so I just called a family member and they filled out the 1 page form in under 1 minute and I was playing after a 1 hr download here in Philippines!

I decided to pay about $8 for new armor and weapons so I just called the DnD company (which happens to be the same one that released the original pen and paper game in the 80\'s) I told them im in Philippines and cant order online. They said MANY people out of the USA play and just call in anytime I need to order - they do it all the time ! Thats nice to hear

This one sticks almost 100% to the official DnD rule books so its nice for those who played DnD with a pencil, dice and paper back in the 80\'s like I did...

I should really wrote a book about gaming... Im not THE best gamer - but I have entered many contests and always end up just 1 place too far behind to get a prize ! (#2 worldwide in Everquest 2 after launch and again #2 worldwide for World of Warcraft - which means mere mediocrity... #1 gets freebies... all #2\'s get is \"gratz\" from their whole server - pffft)  :P

Im not sure about anything PS3 because I was already in RP when PS3 launched in USA and thus never got one. You will find the most local support for Nintendo Wii and a small following for Xbox360 consoles.

I have seen PS3\'s forsale here but when a new title is released you may have to wait longer than you expect to find it in stock somewhere. Wii and Xbox360 - you find those anywhere you find .... Everything else DVD wise...... and

The best people to ask about local support/availability would be a retail gaming chain called \"DataBlitz\" any new title can be reserved through them and you get it on the day its released in USA ! My guess is on releae day they get around 5 -10 copies of a new title... If your name is NOT on their list - it could be weeks before you are playing!

From the setup and inventory I would guess DataBlitz is affiliated with GAMESTOP of USA.... Its the best quality local franchise you will find for gaming consoles.

Wow is nice... (World of Warcraft ONLINE - not to be confused with plain WARCRAFT or DOTA - because Warcraft III supports about 10 people at once playnig.... WOW has over 11 million ACTIVE subscribers who can be online at once and talk to each other - or kill them...)

I have a big GRIPE with Warcraft Online thou -

Out of that 11 million people I made #2 worldwide for my Profession there... and I missed #1 because I fell asleep at the PC for about 3 hrs...

Arrrrghh... Oh well... My character panel shows SERVER FIRST ... but worldwide would have been nice...

I will get that one when the Cataclysm expansion is launched then.... and drop another 30000 gold for Professions...
My guild still has 3 bosses to down in Icecrown Citadel... THEY NEED TO GET THE LARD OUT !

heh... I said \"lard\"

heheh...
I just got a lifetime subscription for Star Trek Online - so I never have to pay for that one again - and its only 1 week old and the NUMBER ONE selling game in the UK right now...

Just like Warcraft ONLINE in space...

MAKE IT SO NUMBER ONE !

Heh - Buying and selling can be a game in itself ! Mighty fun too....

If you ever feel like Wold of Warcraft Online and dont have your good PC to play it - every chain of the cafe called STATION 168 (baguio, manila and maybe a dozen other locations) has it installed on every machne !

Some of the computers there rival my own personal system - I guess thats why its $1 per hr to play there - ooh and they have waitresses to bring you food/drinks to your table as you play 24 hrs a day.

WoW! That is really cool. Lot\'s better than sitting in a waiting room watching a re-run of McGiver dubbed into Tagalog on the TV. Had to do that while my wife and her friend went through their physical cert for nursing job. They broke an hour for lunch and we were walking to a nearby mall. These street guys were calling out \"hey joe!), calling me \"big time\" (2 pretty ladies) and one was trying to sell me Cialis!

Been playing Everquest for a few years.

Memories of pain... lol... #2 worldwide on Everquest II as well... back on server: Grobb aka Najena as teh servers 1st max Sage and worldwide #2 sage... Crafted for Malice/Pandemic...

I missed my Erudite crafting to gain levels and having to actually WORK to do it... in wow you push the button and your item is completed !

In Everquest II if you did it wrong you made a lesser quality item or even DIED ! hahah that was nice !

Pre - Planes of Justice days I was on Everquest 1 as well... Got my Shaman epic before I discovered guilds - solo at lvl 50/51 - Camping PoF for weeks on end with my Barb/Shm promising to bring good buffs ! lol ... to get a space in a raid ! those were the days ! I prefer Everquest 1 Erudites to Everquest 2 - when they became aliens ! that sucked big time...

I DONT WANT TO BE A STINKIN ALIEN !

Now in Warcraft raiding the top content and nothing to kill because I already have the top gear in many slots... its kinda boring... so im just waiting for the next expansion - called Cataclysm...

And playing Star Trek Online when I can - but it kinda sux (im hoping they expand/fix it but its brand new...) ... I have a lifetime membership for Star Trek thou - so I can play and stop anything and not feel im wating $15 a month !

I wasnt sure what Burget Shop 2 was so I had to google it ... that upgrade is less than $7 so its not a bad price BUT... BUT...

What caught my eye was that it appears to be one of those games that you can play in a web browser - like the popular ones such as FARMVILLE, MAFIA WARS, CAFE WORLD or what have you.

Interestingly they sometimes have multi-player elements - where you can visit another users store etc... and now ... the next GENERATION OF BROWSER GAME has been announced ....

Announced JUST LAST WEEK is a Full multiplayer MMORPG in a browser game - BATTLESTAR GALLACTICA ! Shocking... all made possible by the succes of those smaller games....

If they never succeeded no big company would have ever developed a cult classic liek battlestar gallactica as a \"browser only\" game...

Any old Joint Ops players in here?  I got a free game from my son-in-law for Christmas a few years back and now I\'m hooked.  I\'ve been playing online at least once a day/night with my squad, 10th SOG.  JO has gone through several modifications.  First it was IC (International Conflict) giving the player a choice now of being a member of the German, Russian, British or another European fighting force and offering us all the weapons used by those other countries.  Now we\'ve moved up to the AW2 Mod 9Advanced Warfare).  The maps are more intense and varied with missions conducted in jungle, desert, mountain, inter island and winter landscapes.  The enemy has gone from being Indonesian rebels to African, Russian and other European \"bad guys\".

I ain\'t too bad, ranked #4 out of the more than 300 guys on our squad.  You don\'t mess with Gray Wolf when he has his M21 sniper rifle handy!   ;D

Those games Knowda and Gray talk about are all made possible from the people you made your Castle Wolfenstein game!

They started it all... the whole FPS genre by Mr. Cormack and his friends (game developers) who went on from Wolfenstein to make DOOM and then Quake and ended up taking over the whole gaming world for awhile !

They told games dont bother copying them - they will sell the game code to others to modify.... and thats how FPS (first person shooters) all started...
