Title: Radio Hams
Post by: codefreeze on March 06, 2019, 08:02:09 PM
Just curious - are there any expat radio hams here?

There is quite a vibrant community of radio hams in Thailand. Wondering if there is one here too?

I did find this: https://www.para.org.ph/ (https://www.para.org.ph/) but what about expats?

Good question.  Thanks for asking it.  I have a receiving setup and from time to time scan the airwaves for interesting stuff.

Anyone have an understanding of what regulatory hoops are in place for a transmitter here in the RP?

This was covered several years ago and the info may or may not still be relevant.

The HAM I was referring to in that comment was Art Bell.
I had a lengthy conversation with him on this very topic after he returned from his stint in the Philippines.
From what I remember, I emailed the Para people but never got a response from them. (go figure - a no email return from a Philippine organization) but this was about 10 years ago.
You can try to see if this organization is still alive.

According to the PARA website, they appear to be very active, with an orientation seminar scheduled next month.
