Can confirm Balicasag is a beautiful spot but it\'s a $$$$$ place to stay.
Equally nice bohol offshore islands are
  • Pamilacan where your stay can help support the local fisherman who no longer are allowed to harvest whales, their traditional livelihood......get banka from Baclayon pier (run by islanders) rather than from hotel at Alona Beach
  • Another, more difficult to get to is Cabilao on Bohols west coast http://www.bohol.ph/article114.html
You pass Cabilao on your right hand side on the ferry from Cebu at around the halfway mark

I still have to explore Bohols north coast where there are dozens of islands, unexposed to tourism but only an hour from the north coasts major towns

I will consider AC, but I think Cebu or down south may be where I end up becuase I only have a few trips over the next couple of years to figure out my retirement starting point.  I know I dont want to retire in Manila and I doubt I could handle AC for more than a short time.

Angeles City is okay, as long as you have a means to occupy yourself outside of the bar scene. I\'ve lived there on an off for about twelve years altogether. But I visit the bars about once a week at the very most, and usually with my wife.

Unfortunatly, just about every ex-pat website or establishment revolves around the sex trade, so you need to dig deep to find a lifestyle of your own. I\'m into old cars, hot rods, muscle cars, drag racing etc, and there is plenty of that going on there when you scratch below the surface.

If you\'re into V8s, or drag racing, have a browse around this web page, it is all going on in Angeles:
