Roof Temps Based on Reflectivity and Color

Color makes a HUGE difference.
Also with cars.
Mrs RUFUS wanted a black car until I had her lay her arm on the roof of one and told her to keep it there as long as she could.
Almost instantly, she pulled it off.
Then I had her put it on a white roof, and she said it was hot, but she was able to leave it there for as long as she wanted...
Mrs RUFUS has a WHITE car now...LOL

Good example! Color AND reflectivity make a huge difference. Think about the difference between chrome and silver or flat black and gloss black.

You want a COOL roof?

Use tile over GI roofing.

Or Nipa with fish netting over GI roofing.

I tried to get a gig distributing in the Philippines for these guys . envirocoatings.com  For what ever reason i was unsuccessful at gaining there interest lol. Anyway my ulterior motive was to be able to get their product at cost. Because what i have learned the ceramic laced paint they produce is amazing for reflecting heat. I had to settle with repainting with what i could find locally using light colours.

I\'m not sure if it can be purchased over there, but we have a product here call snow seal( or something similar).
It a rubbery tar like product that is painted on and seals the roofs of the trailer homes...
And it is bright white.
It might be something to look for over there... maybe Ace Hardware?
It would be excellent on the metal roofs over there.
Also check to see if they have a company there that applies the spay-on urethane foam.
That is reflective and also insulates.

It boggles the mind why so many house in the PI have fairly dark green or red roofs. 

Or why anybody runs around in a black car?

How do they tie the nipa from the inside with a G.I roof in the way?
I know it can be done as I have seen the G.I from the inside on a roof here..Just no idea how they did it?

Just a thought. Wouldn\'t the GI rust quicker because the Nipa would stay damp longer closer to the GI??

 B-Ray will probably correct me, but I think that is where the fishnet comes in. The Nipa is fastened to the fishnet first, then put over the GI roofing??

I seriously doubt that Graham!!
We have a nylon fishing net stretched over ours but that\'s only to protect the nipa from blowing back in windy weather...
Must admit..Has me puzzled!

They do the nipa 1st, then put the G.I. roofing over it!

A thin framework of bamboo over the GI roofing that you tie the nipa to. 

Well you have a point there, GI under Nipa.

What I\'ve seen, there wasn\'t a ceiling in the Pinoy houses with the above roofing.  The claim was cooler inside using Nipa and drier with the GI. 

Fish netting is on top of the Nipa roofing to keep the wind from blowing it away. Which is more damaging then rain.

Did I say S-I-L-V-E-R as the best?

Bright white next IMO.

How to prepare the roofing and apply the paint comes next.

There are products that will naturalize rust on metal roofing.

If not found in the Philippines, then it\'s up to ~~YOU~~ to get rid of the rust before priming and a top coat of formulated roof paint.

Using standard house paint on the roof, either water or oil base, you will be SORRY you did!!!
