Guns in the Philippines

I was reading some old posts about owning a gun in the PI, while most posts talk about owning a gun for protection none discussed owning a gun for recreational shooting. I know of a few gun clubs and was wondering if any of the members of this forum have any experience with them in the Philippines. My wife has dual citizenship and I figured when we move I would have (her) guns imported by a licensed firearms dealer.

There are lots of gun clubs in the Philippines and you certainly may enjoy the shooting sports to the extent your wallet allows.   

Understand, you will not be able to own any firearms.  Foreigners are not allowed, by law, to own a firearm.  You may, however, use one for sporting purposes or to defend your life or the life of your wife, provided the firearm is legally registered to your wife.

When you find more information on importing a firearm into the Philippines for your wife to own, let me know.  I\'ve run into a stone wall in my efforts to find out how to do that.

Yes, I know I can\'t own any firearms. I\'ll have to wait until my next trip to find out for sure if my plan is actually possible. I figured I could go to an FFL dealer here in the US who could send the guns to a licensed importer in the PI. Once the guns are in the PI my wife can complete the required paperwork. I also have been toying with the idea of starting a gun club. We have some land in a rural area that would make a good range, again I\'ll get better info on my next trip. A pretty good source of infomation can be found at    www.fed.org.ph    I only have two hobbies - hunting and target shooting, I already know hunting is over once we make the move, hopefully I won\'t have to give up shooting as well. Everything has a price and if I have to give up on my hobbies to escape the grind and live the dream I\"LL DO IT. I have been keeping up with your picture postings recently, looks like your having a great time, I\'m jealous but happy for you.

We\'re back in the US now and I\'m hating every moment I sit here.  We\'ve already been talking about another trip before another year passes.

I don\'t know anything about guns, so please forgive me if my question is daft. There are loads of gun shops in Philippines, so why go to the hassle of trying to import a gun?

The prices in the Philippines for a quality firearm are outrageous compared to what most are used to.
Fewer (quality) weapons to choose from (make, caliber, etc)

There are many, too many, junky weapons available, but when my life, or the life of my wife, depends on flawless functioning in a split second, I\'ll rely on models and calibers I\'m familiar with.  JMHO

I know that only you wife can legally own a firearm, but what about other weapons? Cutting and piercing weapons, bows, knives, etc? Blunt weapons, bats and mace like weapons?

That would be the main problem with me moving to RP. I tend to act first and think second when it comes to the safety of me and mine. Im just not wired to stand around while some thugs do ungodly things to the people I love. Im more of a \"kill em all and let God sort them out\" kind of guy. Its looking more and more as if the Philippines isnt in my future.

Don\'t give up on anything, bud!  I\'m as much a \"gun nut\" as you (7 yrs US Army, Service Rifle competitor for decades after military, NRA Life Member)  But I think you\'ll be making a large mistake if you give up before trying. 

Try not focusing on that one thing for a while.  Believe me, if you need to arm yourself, there is a way.  You mentioned alternate weapons.  I just came back from a trip and brought back more than 20 beautiful, sharp, high quality knives in several sizes/configurations.  In northern Luzon they are well known for their high quality blades, of all sizes, up to samurai style.  You won\'t have to do without anything.  You just won\'t be able to strap on your six-shooter and walk down the middle of the street ala \"High Noon\".

I could probably live with that. Lead tends to dance around inside cement structures, and in close quarters, even small calibre rounds can zip right through someone. I may have to hit you up for your source for those blades.

We can work on that!       Just don\'t let anything or anyone rob you of your dreams, bro.

I been checking around and phils prices are close to the US.  The Armscor stuff is the same price at Ali Mall in QC as it is in Vegas.  Friend of mine has 5 of the ar15/m16 flavor.  One was a former Vietnam navy seal issue m16a1 with a lot of mall ninja accessories added on to it.  There are also the Danao Guns although I would stick to shopping at the local gun shop you can find on Sulit pretty easy. 

Got to fire a lot of pretty neat toys last year over in Phil\'s, full auto glock pistols, suppressed full auto m16, ww2 era m1 carbines, new Armscor shotguns. We shot up a lot of bowling pins that day. 

Getting a 12ga Armscor when I go home for good in a couple months.  As for accessories, I can fabricate what I want in my shop.

I been told its 2 days, 6k pesos and 2 passport pics for the wife to get one, plus the 15k purchase price.

Failing that, get yourself a slingshot or bow and arrow.  No paperwork required there.
