Didn\'t I mention in my OP to also see the other travel destination?

You\'re a pretty good photographer yourself! I\'ve seen alot of your awesome photos on your Flicker website long ago of all kinds of flowers and other places you and your wife have been to and also your house build in Palawan! Beautiful looking home!

The strange thing about Flickr is that because I did not renew my pro status, they will only let me see a limited amount unless I renew. I haven\'t used it for a long time so I don\'t remember exactly what is on there.

The basic house is more or less complete but the surrounds need a lot of work and there is still a lot of interior fitting out to do. We are having a party in a couple of weeks time so we are now rushing around trying to do as many improvements as we can. At least it has made us get a move on with some of them

Most of those in the first set were taken in the Orchidarium (sp) in Luneta Park Manila. It was out of season and closed but they let me take a few Photos. Well worth a visit at the right time of year.

The second set was part of the submissions for an online Photographic course; I believe it was a depth of field exercise.

I will have to get back to some serious photography again, most of the last couple of years have been taken up with the house build and recording the progress.

My Canon 10 - 22mm lens gives that type of distortion at the wide end. It\'s not fish-eye, because straight lines don\'t become curved, but it\'s quite dramatic seeing everything stretch as you pan around. I expect you can achieve the 360° effect if you use a tripod and take several shots, and then stitch them together. Not sure what software is used for that though.

Not bad.  600 bucks.  Before I looked, I expected it to be more than that.  As for myself, I would still need to get back in to it before I think about being ready to invest in a lens like that.

I looked further into this since my previous post. There are many stitching programs around that will let you create a 360° panorama. I downloaded a trial version of one of them, and by shooting 8 pictures from a tripod, I used the program to make a 360° view of my living room (just for testing purposes). The effect is very similar to the examples posted so I believe that they were made by the same method.

Using a 360° lens would save you the trouble of shooting so many pics and then stitching them together, but it might not be easy to avoid being in the shot every time!

360 deg photos are interesting, but perhaps a little gimmicky to want to spend $600 for the rare occasion it would be used. It would be better to use the tripod multi shot method but then you have got the problem of subject movement between the frames particularly the first and last. I have made panoramas using a hand held camera and they stitched together OK
