Continuation Of LITP
« on: October 22, 2020, 08:50:23 AM »
Hello members, moderators,.....owner'(s),

So what is the continuation plan to keep the website running after a few members donated to keep the website up for all?

Who is running it?
What is the cost & contract length?
What has been donated?
What is the future cost?

Time to be transparent 8)

Gerlie Lerasan has been running the day to day operation for at least 15 years.
Gerlie performs the forum updates, edits the website of which we are a part and is in charge of paying the server.
The cost is $400 annually and will continue at $400 annually, unless someone makes a major (and I can't overstate this) MAJOR change.

What would a major change look like? Consider this: it took myself, Don Herrington, Gerlie, Billy Reese (aerosick) and many others over a year to put together this relatively inexpensive, easy to use forum when we ere threatened by Yahoo with cancellation of all discussion groups, which they did in 2019. The original Living in the Philippines Yahoo group still exists, but you can't post and read as we once did for almost 20 years.

Are there other forum formats? Sure. Are they as cheap as this one? Maybe not. Could we simply copy and paste 15 years worth of information onto a new platform? Nope, not even close. You would have to start from scratch, send out invitations to prospective members and create an environment and rules to operate.

In my very humble yet opinion, it will be much easier to simply keep this forum running. Your mileage may vary.

After working as a List Guide/Moderator/Admin for Don Herrington on the Yahoo group and then taking charge of this forum for several years, I decided it was time to retire from moderating. I was burned out after years of arguing with people who hated Don, disliked the Philippines and the Filipino people and who worked tirelessly to undermine everything we set up to give valid, up to date information to those who already had a connection with the Philippines or who were thinking of relocating or visiting this magical archipelago. I still drop in on occasion to keep in touch with my many friends here, and to offer my two centavos when someone has a question.

On another note, but part of an earlier question concerning purging inactive members, I performed a bit of house cleaning and removed over 2000 accounts that had never logged in nor posted since joining years ago. It was a tough decision and one that I thought about for days. But I found a way to determine who was active (somewhat) and who had never posted and who also had never logged in since joining. I think I will perform more of this to weed out bots, scammers, ad campaigns and such. We currently list just over 6000 members. The latest stats: 131 online today, most online ever 224. As I write this we currently have 54 "guests" online and 1 member, me. The forum currently has 10 Admins,  2 Global Moderators, and 37 Senior Members. The Admins and Mods are all counted as Senior Members. That should give you an idea of what we have as far as active members and moderating crew.

Also keep in mind that the server payment also covers the Living in the Philippines website. We can't have one without the other. The Forum is a part of the website, not a separate entity  ;)

Thank you Grey Wolf,

Some of this was touched on before but this puts things into perspective.
Maybe I'm the only one who was curious but always good to have an organization's operations visible to all members 8)
