Abusive e-mail help
« on: June 03, 2008, 12:02:31 PM »
I am receiving abusive email. I have seen email software that sends an auto reply to the sender. If the recipient approves, the email is accepted and the email address added to the address book. This is a one time deal. Does anyone have help with me finding this? Thanks.

Please explain in a little more detail, also are you talking about junk mail or is someone sending you explicitly abusive mail?

You should just be able to block the address in you settings.
If he/she is persistant, then just change your address and send the new one to the people that you want to have it.
If the mail is threatening, then send a copy of it to the abuse center of you email carrier and print it and give a copy to the police.
SO SAYETH THE RUFUS

RUFUS, Brad is here in RP, do you really think the police here would care or even know what to do about it. As for email addresses some of us have had the same address for 10 yrs or more, mine is almost 15 yrs old, its like a street address where I can be reached anytime. Not something I want to change anytime soon. I actually have about 20 email addresses, but only one that counts. You know 3 - 4 at Yahoo, 2 at gmail, 2 at msn, and a couple of others floating around. Whenever a site asks me for an email, I give it one of the junk email boxes, but my bank gets the real one. There is software out there that maintains a white list and a black list, when an email is sent to you, it is held at a server, the server sends you an email notifying you that you have mail, after authenticating the mail and the senders reverse IP address for its mail server and after you add the sender to the white list, the mail is forwarded to your email client. Anyone whom you do not authenticate sees you as having dropped off the edge of the planet

This person is very smart. Each mail comes from a different email address. I have complained to ABUSE but the source is a secure server. The mail is filth, describes sex with my wife, claims my children are not mine and demeans my military service. I do not want to change my address, he will just get it again. Almost certain I know who he is, we live in the same city and have some of the same friends. I am trying to find one of these auto responce email filters. Regards.

Brad,

Read this from Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Challenge-response_spam_filtering

If it was you are talking about, check the external links at the bottom for providers.

Mail unknown seems to offer what you need:

I use a program called Mailwasher. It lets me view all incoming emails before they are downloaded from the server. Known spam is already marked for deletion but you can reverse that if you want. You can also delete stuff you know you don\'t want to read, like the notice about the morning tea for Beryl of Accounts who\'s retiring next week. And if you choose to bounce an email the sender will get an \'address unknown\' response and the isp will be blacklisted.

Brad, if you use a process of deduction here. Create an email address at Yahoo.com, use it and send emails to your friends the ones you suspect of giving out your other address, if you get an email from this guy, you have narrowed down the who to the list of friends, if you receive no email at that address, continue to use it just for your groups of friends. Can you send me the header from the emails, maybe I can look into it, its something I am good at. My email link is on this page. What email client are you using, most have the ability to download headers only such as subject and sender.

I was preparing to buy software to stop this abusive mail. It seems that with your help, my problems may well be over. I appreciate very much your help and friendship. Isn\'t it ironic that I meet you by this person stealing my email address (one I don\'t use now) and sending a filthy email to Gray Wolf. It is my pleasure to know you and Jack and be part of this Forum.
Kind regards to all

This is one of those stories that begs to be told.

I banned a jerk from LinP3 and immediately got a filthy email from a Bradley Hughes:

Grey Wolf?
More like limp d**k.
So, you are in lock step with the Hitler of the Philippines? Burn the books of truth and lie about the poor and the pitiful. What good are you limpd**k?
Change your Email. You are no more a wolf than Saddam Hussein was an Evangilist.

Limpd**k Nazi, Don Herrinbones f***in\' lacky. That\'s what you are. Do you even live in the Philippines or are you more like his other moderators that live in California?

Piece of s**t. Jack**f Bi***slap.

Nice huh?  So I sent back a cute reply (I know you are, but what am I?)  Brad responded and said he didn\'t send out the email, didn\'t know who I was and wondered how someone could steal his email identity.  I wrote back to him and advised that I knew one of the guys he cc\'d in his email to me and we began a dialog.

One thing led to another and I ended up inviting Brad to our Forum, advising him that this group was filled with gracious, caring people who wouldn\'t degrade him or abuse him.  The rest is (recent) history.

I still think the original filthy email was from a particular \"gent\" some of us know well by way of his reputation for being a liar, thief and wife beater.  He was deported and blacklisted but snuck back in via pumpboat from Malaysia and lives here now illegally.  I would love nothing more than for him to be rubbed out by a jealous Pinoy.  But that\'s my personal opinion.

Brad is welcome here.

I have just received another abusive, hate mail. Jack, it would not surprise me if the one I suspect and the one you suspect are in this together. All the mails are coming thru securesever.net. I tried blocking them but each mail is thru them using a different email address. Wayne is quite the expert and helping.
It is sad that a person or persons would want to hurt others, especially my \"friend\" who claims to be a Vet. It is ironic that someone trying to hurt me would be resposible for me meeting Jack and ending up on this Forum that has been very good.

Well Brad, you have all the great advice from the expert.  Just an opinion from the amateur  :-[  :), you can block his/her IP address or simply take new account maybe hotmail is better coz you can change the filter to low, standard, & exclusive.  If you select the exclusive you can only received mails from the people that is in your list.

Marie. Somehow I have been able to stumble or fall at the right place at the right time. So goes my life, my marriage, my children, my happiness and joining this Forum. I have received so much help in the passed few days, at the same time making friends. My next question was should I change my email? I like web mail like Yahoo but something like Outlook maybe better for me. I\'ll check out hotmail. May I ask how a gwapa Filipino ends up in Belgium?
